Curriculum Vitae

Christian Kahl studied business informatics at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Essen (Germany) between 2002 and 2007. In his studies, his focus was on electronic business and electronic entrepreneurship, software technology and development as well as web development and marketing. Additionally, he worked at the IT Department of ThyssenKrupp Steel, responsible for a variety of projects, e.g. the design and development of a web-based platform for employees.
In 2006 he was member of the research project "Kaleidoscope" at the University of Duisburg- Essen, on the visualization of service-oriented software architectures (SOA), which was also the topic of his diploma thesis ("Dynamic Visualization of Service-Oriented Architectures").

Between 2007 and 2013, he has worked as a research and teaching assistant and doctoral candidate at the Chair of Mobile Business and Multilateral Security at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt (Germany). Among other responsibilities, Christian was active in the European research project PICOS as a member of the coordinator's team. Besides the management and coordination of the project within this team he investigated various aspects of marketing in the context of (mobile) social networks (e.g. location -based advertising, viral marketing).

His later research work is based on such aspects, in a more specific domain. Christian focused on the marketing of digital music in social media contexts, especially in social networks. He was particularly concerned with the usage of viral marketing techniques in such contexts. These aspects also remark the center of his successful PhD Thesis, in which he investigated how viral marketing can be systematically and sustainably conducted for digital music and which critical success factors exist in this context. The research work is further documented in numerous publications which were presented at various international conferences and events (please see the publications list below, for a full overview). Christian always worked in close contact with experts from the fields of viral marketing, digital music and social media, thereby being in a constant exchange with practice and likewise academics, in order to advance scientific research with high practical relevance.

Beyond the research work at the University and in his PhD Thesis, Christian is concerned with new concepts, innovative technologies and creative startup ideas in the areas of digital music, social media and viral marketing.
